The University of South Florida university offers 219 degree programs at the undergraduate, graduate, specialist and doctoral levels, including the doctor of medicine. The university has a $1.8 billion annual budget, an annual economic impact of $3.2 billion, and serves more than 46,000 students on campuses in Tampa, St. Petersburg, Sarasota-Manatee and Lakeland. The English Language Institute’s mission is to serve USF as a research and teaching laboratory, whose goal is to discover, develop, and deliver dynamic, innovative, and research- based instruction in English to Speakers of Other Languages. The ELI strives to provide academically oriented students, whose first language is not English, with a superior means of preparation to study in the U.S. universities in general, and at the University of South Florida in particular.
USF was awarded more than $360 million in research contracts and grants in fiscal year 2007/2008.
Participants:
Intensive English Program – works great for improving English, obtain valuable academic skills, and experience American culture. Full-time students are in class for 21 hours per week, which are held between mornings and afternoons. Full-time students are supposed to take three 5-hour core courses: Academic Interactions, Academic Preparation and Grammar. Besides, there is a possibility to sign up for 2 3-hour electives: content electives and electives to help prepare for the TOEFL exam, as well as the ACT, SAT, GRE, and GMAT.
Mini-Institute. It is a great opportunity for students looking to study for a shorter term. There are courses for two age groups: younger students 14 to 18 years old and 17 years old and older. The choice: Standard Mini-Institute, Mini-Institute for Teens, Business Mini-Institute and the SAT Prep Mini-Institute.
Part-Time Student program. The following types of students are eligible to study at the ELI part time: U.S. citizens; U.S. Permanent Residents; Students on F-2, J-2, B-1, B-2 visas; J-1 visa holders on a DS-2019; F-1 visa holders on a USF I-20 maintaining full-time status.
Tuition:
Intensive English Program: $3585 per 14-week term, or $2000 for 7 weeks.
Mini-Institute: 2 Weeks = $675; 3 Weeks = $900; 4 Weeks = $1,125.
Part-Time Student program: $170.00 for each class hour
