The University was chartered in 1925 by a group of citizens who felt an institution of higher learning was needed for the development of their young and growing community. The inaugural class of 560 students enrolled in fall of 1926.

The University has grown from its main location in the City of Coral Gables to include the medical campus located in Downtown Miami, the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science on Virginia Key, the John J. Koubek Center in Little Havana, the James L. Knight Center in Downtown Miami, and the South and Richmond campuses in southwest Miami-Dade county.

University of Miami enrolls more than 15,300 undergraduate and graduate students from around the world. With more than 13,000 full- and part-time faculty and staff, UM is the largest private employer in Miami-Dade County.

The mission of the University of Miami Intensive English Program is to prepare international students to enter a university in the U.S. by providing instruction in English language and academic study skills. The IEP also helps its international students adapt to university life and American culture. The program facilitates intercultural understanding, offers support and guidance related to non-academic issues, and builds ease and confidence in a new culture.

Participants:

The Intensive English Program serves the University of Miami by recruiting students and preparing them for academic study, and by providing language support services to the university community. 

Professional English Program (PEP) is designed to prepare students for professional and advanced level academic work. Students must have a high level of English proficiency as determined by the Intensive English Program (IEP) placement test to be eligible for this program.

The English For Law School Studies is especially designed for international students who will be entering an LL.M or Law School program in the future or are currently participating in an LL.M program. Each course will contain online course supplements for additional learning and contact with classmates and the instructor.

Tuition:
The cost of one 14-week session at Intensive English Program is $6,650 and the cost of one 6-week session is $4,050. Tuition and fees must be paid on the first day of your session.
