Valencia Community College has become an innovative leader in higher education with a national reputation for teaching excellence. With four campuses and two centers in the Orlando area, Valencia is now the fourth largest of Florida's 28 community colleges, teaching more than 50,000 students a year.

CGL offers Conversational English and Spanish courses, Cultural Diversity workshops, American Sign Language, and corporate training programs. Our faculty and staff put their energies into a "learning-centered" philosophy that emphasizes individual student success.

Located in sunny Orlando, Florida. Part of Valencia Community College, a nationally recognized college. Close to world-famous tourist attractions like Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, Kennedy Space Center, Epcot, MGM, and Daytona Beach. Eight levels of conversational English (Low-High Advanced).

Participants:

All students in the language program are orally evaluated prior to course commencement and placed according to their oral proficiency in the target language.  The goal of this program is for students to master the language functions at each proficiency level rather than to simply gain exposure to the rules and vocabulary.

Conversational English – this program offers two 16-hour courses, English Pronunciation 1 & 2, which can be taken in any order. These courses are designed for individuals who are proficient in English but who would like to improve their overall pronunciation to be better understood by native speakers. The courses are taught by an experienced instructor who will work closely with students to address all aspects of speech: vowels, consonants, stress, rhythm, and intonation. The instructor will conduct a pre-assessment for each student to analyze their speech patterns. Using this information, the course will be tailored to individual and group needs. The format of the course is highly interactive, with the instructor guiding students as they practice vocally during class time.

Conversational Spanish – in this immersion program, individuals will learn the basic vocabulary and phrases needed to begin communicating immediately with Spanish speakers. Participants learn how to communicate in a variety of contexts and situations. Classes start in January, April, June, August, and October. All students must complete the Oral Evaluation for placement before registering. The Beginner Level 1 program consists of four 20-hour classes (Modules A-D). Each class is given over a period of 8 weeks. Evening and Saturday class schedules available. Courses are offered at the Sand Lake Center and Winter Park Campus, or on-site at any company location.

Intensive English Program (IEP) – in order to provide a complete immersion experience, instruction is given only in English with a focus on conversation.  Instructors encourage active learning through the use of dialogs, modeling, pictures, gestures, paraphrasing, and repetition. There are eight language levels, and the curriculum at each level is organized around real-life themes and situations. Practice is given in all four language learning skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The goal is for students to improve their fluency, pronunciation, grammatical accuracy, and sentence structure in every theme. American culture is also an important part of the language program so students gain a greater ability to understand and appreciate native speakers.

Language & Cultural Programs for the Workplace - provides small class sizes of 15 students for maximum learning. Experienced and qualified instructors. Course duration ranges from 4 to 40 hours depending upon the program. Classes are offered at your company site or at our state-of-the-art facilities. You decide the days and times the classes will run. We offer industry- and job-specific customized curriculum.

Language Proficiency Assessments - The Center for Global Languages is now offering a new service to test an individual's proficiency in a second language.

Proficiency testing involves the following: Screening job applicants; Evaluating employees for promotions, international duties, or upper level management positions; Assessing service employees to ensure maximum customer service; Conducting entrance placement testing for academic institutions; Qualifying international teaching assistants

Youth Programs - has two different types: the After-School Language Program is designed for elementary and middle school children in Orange and Osceola Counties; the Orlando Language Camp for Kids is a language specialty summer camp for children entering grades 1 to 6.

Tuition:
$400 for each two-week course
