Because of our size. It offers an unparalleled array of courses with exceptional technological resources in the heart of one of America's greatest cities.

Participants:

The English as a Second Language (ESL) program provides resources for students with home/heritage lanugages other than English and the faculty who work with them.

The ESL Academic Program, which offers specialized sections of college-level writing, reading, and public speaking courses. ESL sections limit enrollment to 12 students so that teachers are able to spend more time with individual students. ESL sections focus directly on ESL issues, for example, pronunciation, vocabulary development, differences in cultural assumptions and background knowledge, etc. All ESL courses receive college credit towards graduation, and students pay Columbia College tuition. ESL courses are offered following the CC academic calendar, with two 15-week semesters (Fall and Spring), and one 8-week semester (summer).

The Summer Intensive English Language Institute (SIELI), an advanced "bridge-to-academic" language and culture program for students who need to improve their English before enrolling at Columbia. It is an intensive English language and US culture program at CCC. The SIELI is an arts, media, and community infused program, designed for students with high-intermediate to advanced levels of proficiency in English who want to continue to develop their language and intercultural skills for academic and professional purposes.
