The University of Maine was founded in 1865. It offers 85 undergraduate degrees, over 60 masters' degrees, and 26 doctoral degrees. The School enrolls 11,500 undergraduate and graduate students, including 400 international students from 75 countries.

The Intensive English Institute at Orono, Maine offers summer courses in ESL education and shorter-term programs, workshops and tutorials. The core intensive program develops English language skills for success in school, business, and social communication. The English for Special Purposes (ESP) short-courses, workshops and tutorials address specific needs in a shorter-term format. In addition, the Institute trains teachers of ESL/EFL, and custom design other specialized language training programs to meet the needs of students’ institution or business. 

Core Intensive English Language Program. IEI's core program offers intensive English language instruction in four skill-focused modules designed to rapidly develop the student's fluency and comprehensibility using English. The classes also provide cultural awareness training to prepare English language learners to function comfortably in the U.S.A. Our teachers use innovative methods and communicative activities consistent with the Natural Approach and based on a Focal Skills Program design. 20 hours per week. $2,200 per 7-8 week session

TOEFL Workshops is designed to prepare students for the TOEFL by familiarizing them with the format and directions of the test as well as providing an individualized study plan to help students prepare themselves. This workshop focuses on the TOEFL ITP test given to students seeking admission to the University of Maine The workshops are given on the two 2 consecutive Fridays before a scheduled TOEFL. $120.00 for the course fee, book and materials.

Medical English Programs. This workshop is intended for doctors, nurses and other medical personnel who want to improve their oral communication with patients and with one another in an English-speaking clinical setting. $950 (includes $100 application fee and all materials).
