Eastern Michigan University was founded in 1849. EMU enrolls 22,638 students. The School provides 200+majors and minors in five colleges: College of Arts and Sciences; College of Business; College of Education; College of Health and Human Services; College of Technology.

Participants:

English for Academic Purposes (EMU) courses give credit. No exit testing; no re-taking the TOEFL, full-time ESL study = 12-15 hours per week, classes focus on academic English skills, high level ESL students can be enrolled in ESL courses and other university courses at the same time, undergraduate students may count ESL courses for graduation credit, students begin their programs sooner so they save time and money, and graduate sooner. 

The ESL Summer Institute is a program created for international students who have graduated from high school and who wish to learn English and experience American culture and university life in a short-term summer experience. The ESL Summer Institute is a welcoming and inviting on-campus experience, offering students the opportunity to: practice oral and written communication in English; improve their pronunciation of American English; learn about special topics through academic seminars; participate in media presentations on American culture; prepare for the IBT TOEFL; visit local attractions in Michigan; meet American college students and professors; experience college life by living in a college dorm; assess the English readiness for university study; learn about the programs and services EMU offers.
