The Creighton University was founded in 1878. The University enrolls 4,104 undergraduate and 2,888 professional and graduate students. A student-to-faculty ratio is 12 to 1.

Participants:

English Language Institute (IELI) helps students from different language backgrounds become fluent in English. Courses in reading, writing, listening/speaking and grammar focus on specific skills across seven proficiency levels (from high beginning to advanced) but are fully integrated. Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) Laboratory sessions reinforce what is learned in the classroom; weekly co-curricular activities and field trips provide the cultural context for the practice of language skills learned.  Special workshops and courses further prepare students for a university degree program: TOEFL preparation; using the library; study skills; time management; how to apply to Creighton’s degree programs. IELI classes meet Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., for a total of 22 hours per week.  Five terms of eight-weeks each are offered each year. Small classes allow the IELI instructors to focus on each student’s needs, taking into account his or her native language and learning style.
