The University was established in 1880s. Today it enrolls nearly 11,000 graduate and undergraduate students. Ashland University offers more than 70 undergraduate majors and most of the majors combine liberal arts study with hands-on, real-world experience. Undergraduate student to faculty ratio is 16:1.

The Ashland University Center for English Studies (ACCESS) provides different services and offers the finest possible English-learning environment. All teachers are Professional Instructors who have Masters Degrees. They have lived overseas, and have extensive experience teaching English as a Second Language. In ACCESS international students master communication skills in American English and meet Americans.  Classes in ACCESS are designed to prepare you to participate effectively in University classes and daily American life.  In addition,you can meet different groups of America people and visit places of interest in Ohio and beyond. 

Students can start their English studies in ACCESS whenever it is convenient for them. The School offers six terms of instruction each year. The 7.5 week terms start in January, March, May, July, September and October. Classes meet Monday through Friday for four hours a day. In other words, you will have classes 20 hours per week. Classes range in size from three to 15. Most classes have fewer than 10 students. ACCESS offers four levels of instruction; most students require two terms (one semester) to complete each level. Students are assigned to the level that best matches their English learning needs. In addition to the daily classes,they are assigned up to 10 hours per week for individual work in the language laboratory.
