Duquesne University was founded in 1878 as a Catholic college by the Order of the Holy Spirit. The totsl enrollment of the school is 10,368 students. Student-to-faculty ratio is 15:1.DU offers 100 undergraduate, 66 graduate and 22 doctorate degree programs.

The ESL Program provides a supportive learning setting for non-native speakers of English who need to improve language and cultural competencies for success in U.S. higher education.

The program serves students at all levels of study-  graduate degree, undergraduate degree and ESL only (non-degree). The program assists students who are accepted to an academic degree program at Duquesne University, but whose English still requires some improvement; are planning to enroll in or are conditionally accepted to other universities after completing the ESL Program at Duquesne University, or are interested in studying only ESL as non-degree students on either a short- or long-term basis.
