Located near downtown Chattanooga, The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga is one of a growing number of institutions characterizing themselves as "metropolitan universities." The metropolitan university mission includes a dedication to meeting the general and professional educational needs of area residents, strong community involvement and leadership, and emphases on applied research and public service. UTC had been a private institution for 83 years when it joined the University of Tennessee's system of statewide campuses.

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees.

Participants:

10-week English as a Second Language program is offered three times a year. The schedule is Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (one hour for lunch). Classes meet for 20 hours each week and are taught by instructors who have Master's degrees in English or a related field. Five levels of English proficiency are available. Students are tested to determine their level of English proficiency. Classes are offered in many areas: pronunciation, vocabulary, idioms, conversation, grammar, reading comprehension, TOEFL preparation, and listening/speaking. A listening lab is available. UTC can issue Form I-20 to allow non-immigrants to study English in the U.S.
