CSC was founded in 1837. It is accredited by the New England Association of Schools & Colleges (NEASC); Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE); Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The College enrolls 942 undergraduates, representing 25 states and 11 foreign countries. Student: faculty ratiois 11:1, and average class size is 16.6.

English as a Second Language Program offers this three-credit class, which serves to ensure the student's success by strengthening her academic English. Students enrolled in ESL are also enrolled in at least three other academic courses. Credits are granted for ESL, which fulfills the college liberal arts requirement.

During international student orientation, there will be an opportunity to take the Institutional TOEFL, which will be administered by ELAC staff. The results of this test, as well as a brief interview with a faculty member, will determine the student's need for ESL at the college. Students who have previously scored 600 on the TOEFL or whose country of origin is English are exempt from the exam and automatically qualify to take a full load of non-ESL classes.
