WSU was founded in 1889. More than 21,000 students study full- and part-time in the University. Student-to-faculty ratio is 22:1. WSU offers more than 200 undergraduate degree programs - the largest and most comprehensive undergraduate offering in the state. In addition, the university offers eight graduate degree programs, an array of professional certificate programs, online education and the Early College Program, which helps high school students get a jump on college. The Learning English for Academic Purposes. Program at Weber State University is an intensive English language program. The program teaches students who speak English as a second language the language skills they need for success in university classes and the professional world.
This program welcomes international students, permanent residents and US citizens who wish to study English as a second language. In the LEAP Program, students learn to use spoken and written English easily and effectively and become familiar with American university culture.
Experienced professors and tutors provide students with personalized instruction. An average class consists of 15 to 20 students. Students learn reading, writing, listening, speaking, grammar and computer skills. As well as lecture and note taking skills, library and research skills and pronunciation and conversation skills. It is possible to complete the LEAP Program in one to two semesters, with courses being offered every eight weeks. Students immerse in English language instruction. The LEAP Program provides 20-25 hours of structured language instruction per week. They can use LEAP credits to fulfill the foreign language requirement for Bachelor of Arts Degree and Associates of Arts degree, or apply them as electives toward the Bachelor of Science and Associate of Science degree. There is no TOEFL requirement. Admission to the university is automatic.
