Participants:

Intensive English Program offers general English courses at the beginning,low-intermediate, and high-intermediate levels. At these levels, full time students take a two- hour Reading /Writing /Grammar class and a two-hour Speaking/Listening/Grammar class everyday for five days per week. Each level is ten weeks long during fall, winter, and spring quarters. Summer quarter is only eight weeks long, but the number of hours of instruction is the same as in the other quarters.Students who complete the Intensive English Program may continue in either the College Bridge Program or in Advanced English Program.

The College Bridge Program is for students who plan to attend college but still need to improve their English. It allows advanced ESL students to continue to develop their English skills while earning up to 13 college credits (equal to one quarter of full-time college study). College Bridge courses focus intensively on the reading, critical thinking, and class participation skills students need to succeed in American colleges or universities, including lecture comprehension, note-taking, and oral and written communication skills. Students in the program enroll for 10-15 hours per week of English language courses, and 2-5 hours per week of college-level courses. Total classroom time is 15-18 hours per week.

The Advanced English Program is for students who only want to study English and who do not plan to continue their studies at an American college or university. Students with advanced English skills can choose from a variety of interesting reading, writing, speaking and listening classes. Students in the Advanced English Program are not required to take any college courses; they normally take only SCIE courses. Students who place in at least the introductory level of College Bridge (level 4) and would like to take college courses should enroll in the College Bridge program.
