Southern Illinois University was founded in 1874. Now, SIUC is a multi-campus university with the School of Medicine in Springfield, Illinois. The school offers over 175 undergraduate majors, specializations, and minors, 62 master's programs, and 27 doctoral programs among the fields of agriculture, applied sciences and arts, business and administration, education, engineering, the liberal arts, the fine arts, mass communication and media arts, science; and professional-degrees in law and medicine.
Participants:
English as a Second Language (ESL). This program was designed to be a student-centered environment with lessons for classes supported through student suggestions. The classes are available to adults who wish to improve their English literacy skills. This includes but is not limited to: Reading, Speaking, Writing, and Listening. Class sizes are small and highly individualized. The program teaches and helps to improve conversation skills, improve Reading and Writing Skills; expression of thoughts, ideas, concerns, and feelings in English; sharing of other cultures and cultural differences, in-class activities to include group work and brainstorming; know the basic aspects of English grammar; speak to native English speakers and be understood; knowledge of the American Culture and non-standard English.
