North Park University was founded in 1891 by the Evangelical Covenant Church. It is located on Chicago's north side and enrolls nearly 3,300 students from around the country and the world. At the school, excellence implies not only a deep tradition in the liberal arts and the Christian faith, but also a spirit of innovation, reaching out to serve and to learn from the dynamic community around us. NPU offers 30 undergraduate majors, plus 20 concentrations and preprofessional programs. Classes are small, with undergraduate classes averaging just 22 students. 87% of North Park full time faculty hold earned PhD's or the terminal degree in their field. This means students benefit from the personal attention of highly qualified faculty who love to teach.

Participants:

Academic ESL Program is offered in the fall and spring, this 15-week program prepares students for study in an American university setting.  Students take in four classes (12 semester-hours) per semester: Speaking & Listening, Reading, Writing, and Structure. These classes are designed to prepare them for any of North Park's undergraduate or graduate programs. Upon successful completion of the Academic ESL Program, students who have already been accepted into a North Park University or Seminary program may enroll full-time in that program.

American Studies Summer Program. The city of Chicago serves as a central part of this exciting curriculum.  For five weeks, students take three classes – speaking-listening, reading-vocabulary, and culture – and participate in two field trips per week and an optional outing on Saturday.  Students have many opportunities to practice their English as they become very familiar with Chicago.

Class sizes in both programs are small -- 12 students maximum -- so students can receive personalized attention. North Park's ESL Program is a full member of the American Association of Intensive English Programs (AAIEP).
