Hesston College was founded in 1909. Hesston’s mission is guided by biblical principals such as peacemaking and justice. It enrolls nearly 500, students who represent more than 25 religious affiliations, 30 states, and 15 countries. One-third are from backgrounds other than Mennonite. Hesston offers more than 50 academic majors and five pre-professional programs. HC is accredited as a two-year college by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.


Participants:

Listening/Speaking (Intermediate Level). 3 credit hours (does not apply to credit hours for graduation from Hesston College). For students whose ability is in TOEFL range of 440-469 (123-149 on CBT). Emphasis is placed on teaching the intermediate student how to develop listening comprehension through a variety of listening skills including predicting, drawing inferences, summarizing, and identifying phonological clues that signal important information. Emphasis is also placed on note-taking and conversation skills.

Grammar/Writing (Intermediate Level). 4 credit hours (does not apply to credit hours for graduation from Hesston College). for students whose ability is in TOEFL range of 440-469 (123-149 on CBT). Course has two components: grammar and writing. Components are coordinated by theme, vocabulary, and skills.

Listening/Speaking (Advanced Level). 3 credit hours (may be applied to credit hours for graduation from Hesston College). For students whose ability is in the TOEFL range of 470-499 (150-172 on CBT). Focuses on learning strategies and language functions while maintaining a strong focus on both listening and speaking. Interactive listening activities based on short, but realistic academic lectures and sample conversations provide comprehensive practice while a variety of “realistic world” speaking activities reinforce use in context of language function.

Reading/Vocabulary (Advanced Level). 3 credit hours (may be applied to credit hours for graduation from Hesston College). For students whose ability is in the TOEFL range of 470-499 (150-172 on CBT). Enables the student to deal effectively with sophisticated reading materials of both a scientific and humanistic nature. Brings the student from a basic level of comprehension of the English language to the higher competence necessary for tackling work in the college classroom.
