PMC was founded in 1911. Currently, the College enrolls 491 undergraduate and 10 graduates students from 26 states, the District of Columbia, and 18 countries outside of the United States. PMC is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). Student-to-faculty ratio is 10:1.


Participants:

The English Language Institute, an integral part of Pine Manor College, specializes in intensive English courses. The English Language Institute classes: start every four weeks, year-round; can be as few as four weeks, or as long as a year; are given in small, multi-national classes with students from all over the world; are taught by qualified and experienced faculty. Courses include Intensive English, Semi-Intensive English, University Prepartion, TOEFL, Business English, and Private Classes.

Intensive English Program. 30 lessons per week, there are all levels from Beginner to Advanced. The average class size is 8, the maximum – 15. The Program may last from 4 to 50 weeks. The Intensive English Program (IEP) is the most popular course. It allows students to specialize in areas of the language that interest you most. The lesson structure is: 24 lessons per week as the appropriate  level in Grammar, reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking; 6 lessons per week, chosen from the TOEFL preparation: Listening/Structure/Reading; English for Business and the Professions; American Culture and Language; English through Drama; Pronunciation Development; Academic Study Skills; American Literature and History.

Semi-Intensive English Program. 24 lessons per week. The average class size is 12, the maximum 15. The course consists of 24 lessons per week at the appropriate level in Grammar, Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking.

University Preparation Program. 30 lessons per week. Available levels: from Intermediate to Advanced. The average class size is 8, the maximum 12. 20 lessons per week in Applied Grammar, Academic Reading and Writing, Listening and Speaking, all with an emphasis on developing necessary skills for university study in the USA. 7 lessons per week, specializing in: Preparation for the TOEFL exam with monthly institutional TOEFL tests offered; Vocabulary Development; Advanced Essay Writing; Study Skills; The social, cultural and academic life at a university in the USA. Self-study and homework assignments are part of student’s course. Students are expected to complete their self-study assignments and may use the multi-media centers and specialized software.

Professional Studies Program. This unique program allows students to combine their English studies with college courses (without credit) at Pine Manor College.

Private lessons are available, either in addition to another course or on their own. Private instruction is especially suitable for students who need to improve their English language skills for a specific purpose, usually associated with business or the professions. Instructors are selected from faculty who have expertise and academic qualifications in the chosen area.

Summer Program offers students an excellent opportunity to study in our high quality semi-intensive course and enjoy fun, exciting on/off campus educational, social, cultural activities and excursions. 20 lessons per week, classes: Grammar, Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening.
