Michigan Language Center students who are interested in attending an American university or college are assisted by the academic counselor at the Michigan Language Center. Academic counselor meets with the students individually to help them decide which universities or colleges best meet their needs. The counselor provides the students with information about the programs offered by the institution, its reputation, the costs, the application standards and requirements, the geographic location, and the student life. In addition, he assists the students with the application procedure.

Besides, academic counselor assists students in applying to programs, colleges, and universities in other parts of the country.

Participants:

The Michigan Language Center offers Six-Week Intensive English Programs for beginning level to very advanced level students. A student may enroll for only one intensive program for six weeks or may enroll for as many as eight intensive programs, each lasting six weeks. A student is supposed to attend four classes or a minimum of 20 hours of class time per week. These classes include an all-skills class which integrates the skills of speaking, listening, reading, writing and grammar as well as elective classes which emphasize specific skill areas. Students may choose these classes based on their individual interests and needs. Some elective classes focus on the pre-academic needs of students who wish to attend an American university or college. Other classes focus on general English fluency for students who do not plan to attend an American college or university but who need to improve their English before returning to their own countries. Click below to see a course description form for each of the following levels: Beginning, Intermediate, Advance Intermediate and advance.

The maximum class size is 16 students and the average class size is 12. Speaking, listening and conversation classes are generally smaller. Enrollment in the Program is open to students who are at least 17 years of age. In addition to the 20 hours of class time that a student attends, two special seminars are offered each term. Students may also participate in a conversation partner program. The seminars and the conversation partner program may add up to six more hours of English language training per week. There is no charge for these additional hours of English practice.
