The University was founded in 1927. UH is located in Houston, Texas, the nation’s fourth-largest city and the energy capital of the world.
Each year it enrolls 36,000 students and offers over 120 majors and minorson the undergraduate level. At the graduate level, it offers 139 master’s, 54 doctoral, and three professional degree programs. The University of Houston is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award baccalaureate, master's, professional, and doctoral degrees.
Participants:
Intensive English Program. (Spring, Fall, summer). This 13 or 14-week academic program provides twenty hours of classroom instruction per week for students who need to significantly improve their English to study in an American college or university, whose professions require a mastery of the English language or who simply desire to improve their English language skills. The program includes instruction in reading, writing, listening, speaking, as well as grammar. Students are placed into levels based on their placement test scores.
Each class hour consists of 50 minutes of class and 10 minutes of break time. Classes are held on the campus of the University of Houston, allowing students the opportunity to learn their way around campus and mix with American students at the university. Each student is enrolled in a Core and a Coop class which integrate the language skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking, along with a grammar component. These classes are taught by teachers with at least a Masters degree in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) or a related field.
