The College was founded in 1876. Today, the total enrollment of school is 1506 students. Students/faculty ratio is 13 to 1. JC is accredited by Middle States Assoc.; Council on Social Work Education and some other competent organizations.

Juniata's Intensive English Program offers a high-quality education. The instructors are highly experienced and certified in Teaching English as a Second Language. When students arrive at Juniata they are tested and placed into courses according to your English proficiency level. The Intensive English Program offers academic English courses at three levels: Low Intermediate; High Intermediate; Advanced. 

Students must have an intermediate level of English to be accepted. There are no classes for beginners.

The program encourages English fluency, both in class and outside of class, through projects, surveys and interviews with Americans. Classes are held from 20 to 25 hours per week and focus on developing language skills and building self-confidence in using English. The courses emphasize: strengthening speaking ability through in-class discussions with international and American students and interviews with local people; practice in listening and understanding academic lectures in real university classes; developing university-level writing and research skills; expanding vocabulary and increasing reading speed; developing the self-confidence to use English in a professional or U.S. university setting; experience interacting with American culture and the expectations a U.S. college/university.
