HACC was founded in 1964. Today it is the largest provider of nursing and allied health professionals, law enforcement and other public safety personnel. HACC serves 21,000 degree-seeking students as well as 50,000 in noncredit programs for personal and professional growth opportunities. HACC offers 170 degree, certificate or diploma programs.

HACC is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

The English as a Second Language (ESL) program at HACC is recognized for its excellence. ESL offers four levels of semi-intensive English instruction designed to meet the special needs of second language students. Each level meets for fifteen hours of classes per week, Monday through Friday, for eight weeks allowing students to complete two levels each semester. Each level concentrates on all four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
