The University was established in 1911. SUNY Cobleskill enrolls more than 2,500 students. SUNY Cobleskill is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools.

SUNY Cobleskill offers two English as a second language courses, ESOL 120 and ESOL 130, for a total of 6 credits. ESOL 120, Intermediate ESL, is available as part of the Summer Intensive ESL program (see below). ESOL 130, Advanced ESL, is available during the academic year. 

Summer Intensive English as a Second Language Program. SUNY Cobleskill offers an intensive summer English as a second language program that combines four weeks of classroom instruction with weekend excursions and a two-week home stay. The home stay occurs after the instruction period so students can practice their English language skills and become comfortable in an American cultural setting. The Summer Intensive ESL program is available to incoming SUNY Cobleskill students and students preparing to enter college. Classes run from 9 am to 12 pm, and then again from 1 pm to 3 pm (Monday - Friday).

Academic Year. ESOL 130, Advanced ESL, is available in the fall and spring semesters. This 3-credit course is recommended for non-native speakers of English who are not quite ready for college composition. In ESOL 130, students are introduced to college-level reading and writing assignments and research techniques while attending classes with American students. Sharing classes with Americans helps students improve their English language skills.

Outside of class, writing tutors in the Center for Academic Excellence offer assistance in planning and revising assignments.
