California State University, Fresno was founded as Fresno State Normal School in 1911 and has offered advanced degrees since 1949. The university's popular nickname is "Fresno State." 

CSUF has accreditation of the California Board of Education and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. There are 26 nationally accredited departmental programs there.

The university enrolled more than 22,000 students, and about 5,000 students completed work for bachelor's, master’s and doctoral degrees by Commencement 2007.

Participants:

The American English Institute (AEI) offers a non-credit intensive English program for international students. The courses are designed to prepare students for academic study in a college or university in the United States, prepare students for the TOEFL exam and help to improve their communication skills. The program consists of a minimum of 20 instructional hours per week divided into reading/vocabulary, listening/speaking, pronunciation, writing/grammar, and TOEFL preparation classes. Preparation for university coursework is emphasized. 

The school offers a minimum of 20 hours per week of English instruction at the low intermediate to advanced levels. All levels of instruction offer the most modern teaching methods, including the use of a Computer-Assisted-Language-Learning (CALL) Lab. The subjects and weekly class hours are as follows:
     - Writing/Grammar: 5 hours per week
     - Reading/Vocabulary: 5 hours per week
     - Listening/Speaking/Pronunciation: 5 hours per week
     - TOEFL Preparation: 5 hours per week
     - Computer Lab (optional): 2 hours per week

Three Sessions a Year:
Fall: 13 weeks of instruction (20 hours per week): $2,600.
Spring: 13 weeks of instruction (20 hours per week): $2,000.
Summer: 10 weeks of instruction (20 hours per week): $2,600.
