SUNY at Albany was founded in 1844. Today it enrolls nearly 18,000 students. The University offers more than 120 programs leading to master's and doctoral degrees. Undergraduates choose from 56 majors and 60 minors.
Participants:
Intensive English Language Program. The IELP offers three distinct English language programs in order to meet the varying needs of international students. This full-time intensive language program is intended especially for serious students who either want to seek admission to an American college or university or who wish to improve their English for business, personal or professional reasons. The IELP is offered year-round. There are Intensive 16-week Fall and Spring Semesters and Intensive 8-week Summer Semester. Levels: High-Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced Class Levels. Classes - Reading, Writing, Grammar, Listening, and Speaking classes. 20 class hours per week study is offered. TOEFL skills are taught in every class. Cultural Activities and Speakers, multi-media and computer laboratories, communicative classes, professional, dedicated faculty and staff, certificate of Attendance, academic Counseling are provided.On-Campus Room and Board available
Summer Academic Institute (SAI). The Summer Academic Institute is designed for International Students who have been accepted to the University at Albany for the Fall semester. The S.A.I.'s four week course helps students gain the confidence needed for academic success. This program gives students the opportunity to practice and improve English skills in a friendly environment before the Fall Semester begins. Students will then be able to start their studies at the University at Albany with confidence derived from familiarity with their new surroundings and knowledge of academic language skills.
ESL Courses for University Students. The Intensive English Language Program offers several ESL courses for international students who are currently enrolled in the University. Oral Communication, Academic Writing, and International Teaching Assistant courses are designed to give students the skills and practice they need to succeed in university level course work. This course does not offer academic credit and will not be placed on your official university transcript. However, this course is equivalent to three credits for the 12 credit requirement of F-1 student status.
