Queens college was founded in 1937. The College enrolls 18,494 students. The college offers over 115 undergraduate and graduate majors. Academic programs are organized into four divisions , which offer both day and evening courses: Arts and Humanities; Education; Mathematics and the Natural Sciences; and the Social Sciences. Classes are also offered during a winter session and four summer sessions.

The English Language Institute (ELI) of Queens College is a full-time, academic program for learning English as a Second Language (ESL). It is the oldest English language school in the City University of New York (CUNY) and the second oldest in the entire United States. If you need to learn English to carry out your study and career plans, the ELI at QC will help you. The school provides an intensive and well-rounded ESL program. The ELI offers two full semesters in the fall and spring, and two shorter summer sessions. At each level, students work on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, writing and grammar. All students who attend classes regularly and successfully complete their assigned work receive an official certificate at the end of each semester.
