The English as a Second Language Program (ESL) offers course work specific to the language needs of students for whom English is a second (or subsequent) language. This is a required course for all undergraduates who have not satisfied the UC Entry Level Writing requirement and who have been designated as needing the course based on their UC Analytical Writing Placement Examination. A combination of instructor recommendation, Entry Level Writing Exit Exam result, and a possible portfolio review places students in this course for another quarter, or in a college writing sequence. The program is taught cooperative agreement with the San Diego Community College District.
