CSU is a student-focused center of scholarly excellence that provides an accessible and exceptional education. All students are responsible for ensuring the appropriate selection of courses to satisfy general education requirements and are encouraged to consult with their academic adviser regarding the applicability of selected programs. The University offers many disciplines and research facilities with master's degree programs, doctoral degrees and graduate certificates.

CSU's colors are forest green and white. The sports teams' nickname is the Vikings. For many years the school mascot was the comic strip character Hägar the Horrible along with his wife Helga, and the couple appeared at sporting events as well as on University literature. Cleveland State University student athletes represent the university community at local, regional, national and international competitions, including the NCAA Championships and the Olympics. Almost 40 Viking student athletes have been selected as All-Americans in their respective sports.

In order to park in Cleveland State University lots or garages, students, faculty, staff, vendors and contractors are required to register their vehicles and obtain a parking hangtag from the Department of Parking Services. Parking hangtags will not be issued to any individuals having parking fines and/or outstanding obligations which are unpaid. Whether living on campus or commuting, students should consider purchasing a meal plan that will fit their schedule and eating habits. University's Standing Reservation Meal Plan options are a great way to simplify student's life and save money. Cleveland State provides multiple dining locations on campus. Examples include the Elements Bistro for a nice sit-down breakfast or lunch, the Midway Café in Main Classroom, Fenn Shoppe for a grab and go lunch, and Glenn’s Oasis in the Rec Center for a smoothie.

The General Purpose Labs are open to all students. Macs and PCs are available, network drops for laptops, free printing, and various software. Additional computers are available in each college. Career Resource Library is a comprehensive source of career information designed to help students with their job searches, including information on job search strategies, occupational trends and outlooks, and specific employer information; in all, we have more than 200 volumes. The CM- Law Library is a superior research and learning facility. All students preparing for legal practice in the 21st century have access to electronic research services, a 50-seat computer lab, group study rooms, a research instruction room and a room dedicated to Ohio legal materials. The law school’s future attorneys may study and read at leisure in the four–story, light-filled atrium or in one of the 200 carrels with built-in power and wireless access for laptop computers.

Health & Safety

The Department of Environmental Health and Safety at Cleveland State University is responsible for facilitating University compliance with applicable federal, state and local legislation pertaining to environmental health and occupational safety in University. The Department of Environmental Health and Safety is also responsible for emergency preparedness, fire safety and prevention and safety, and insurance services for the University.

CTU is home to nine nationally recognized fraternities and six sororities as well as local fraternities and sororities. These Greek-letter organizations are advised by faculty and chapter advisers. Greek-letter organizations provide opportunities for sisterhood/brotherhood, philanthropic events, social activities, scholarship and leadership. Joining a Greek-letter organization provides student, with a wide array of transferable skills useful in future life and future career. There are more than 100 student organizations in Cleveland State University.Students can choose among such organizations as choral groups, concert band, dance, drama theatre, jazz band, literary magazine, music theatre, opera, radio station, student government, student newspaper, student film society, symphony orchestra and others.

Nightlife at Cleveland State only works out for students if they're age 21 and over. Otherwise students are confined to fraternity parties which are horrible most times because they are BYOB. If you are an athlete or cheerleader you are more likely to get into the athletic parties which if are lucky will come with all the jungle juice you can drink. They are usually more fun than Greek parties, sadly these parties are restricted to athletes and their friends. Although Cleveland State University student housing may be very conveniently close to campus, moving to an off campus apartment can be a great way to save money, put some distance in between yourself and an RA, get accustomed to living in your own apartment and building up rental history. CSU apartments for rent are available close to campus and in other neighborhoods around Cleveland, Ohio. Students can find off campus CSU apartments that will best suittheir collegiate life.
