Academics

California State University in Chico offers 66 undergraduate degree programs in the liberal arts and in professional and technical areas. Many majors are divided into areas of specialization either as options or patterns. Besides, students may choose from a wide variety of minors, teaching credentials, and certificates. The University offers 35 masterís degree programs ranging from professional degrees that meet the needs of the North State through traditional liberal arts degrees such as English, History, Anthropology, and Political Science, to technical degrees that attract large numbers of international students, such as Computer Science and Electrical and Computer Engineering. All programs are offered within seven colleges and forty-five departments.

Athletics

California State University offers soccer, basketball, cross country, golf, and track and field for both men and women. It sponsors softball and volleyball for women, and baseball for men.

Campus

California State University, Chico students have several residence halls to choose from. It has six traditional residence halls (Mechoopda Hall, Esken Hall, Shasta Hall, Lassen Hall, Sutter Hall, and Whitney Hall) as well as the thematic housing program, with six houses in Konkow Hall. Together these on-campus halls provide housing for 1,472 students who are mostly first-time freshmen. Parking is very limited and on certain days it may take additional time to find available parking. The University President may grant permission to park on campus, to those persons who have paid a parking fee. This includes students, staff, faculty, and university visitors who are attending special events, such as cultural shows, musical/ theatrical performances, sporting events, conferences, and other events not classified as "Official State Business." Campus parking facilities are not supported by taxpayer dollars, but are self-supporting. They are paid for by the users of the facilities through payment of parking fees. Due to limited parking availability, students may wish to make use of an alternative means of transportation. Students' Wildcat identification card will allow them to ride the Butte County Transit bus or the Chico Area Transit System (CATS) bus at no charge. Students may also wish to check the Associated Students bulletin board, located in the BMU Lobby, for ride share information.

Facilities

University library offers more than 42,300 books, 21,000 paper and electronic full-text periodicals and journals; 938 manuscripts and archives; 163,106 maps; 11,620 video / DVDís; 162,800 digital images. Current CSU, Chico, students, staff, faculty, and emeritus faculty can access the Meriam Library's restricted databases from their homes, or any other remote location. The computer lab and free-standing computers in the Wildcat Den (BMU basement) are full service, state-of-the-art and ready for students. The lab includes: color and black & white printing, CD writer, DVD players with head phones, floppy drive and scanner access limited to certain computers, software includes Microsoft Office 2007 (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher), Open Office, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Adobe Photoshop, and VLC Media Player.

Health & Safety

The mission of Student Health Service is to assist each student with their diverse healthcare needs in order to facilitate maximum academic and personal growth. CSU, Chico partnered with Wells Fargo Insurance to provide an optional LOW COST supplemental Student Health insurance for those medical conditions that exceed the scope of the Student Health Center and/or require the care of an outside physician or facility. It is the studentís financial responsibility for any healthcare obtained outside the Student Health Center.

Students

University students enter a number of student's organizations, such as Cultural Organizations, Professional/Academic Related Organizations, Honorary Organizations, Special Interest Organizations, Religious Organizations, Political Organizations, General Fraternities, General Sororities, Sport Clubs, Recreational Organizations, Service Organizations.

Alumni & Post-Grad

The Chico State Alumni Association was founded in 1892 and now serves more than 100,000 alumni by helping them stay connected to CSU, Chico through events like The Chico Experience Week, class reunions, and communications such as Connected.
