Academics

Western Connecticut State University, also known as WestConn, has an arts and sciences curriculum, a business school, and several professional programs including elementary and secondary education, nursing, music performance, and social work.

Athletics

The men and women athletics belong to the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III. The football program is a member of the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The 13 other athletic programs are members of the Little East Conference. The University has teams in baseball, basketball, lacrosse, football, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, and volleyball. WestConn also fields several nationally competitive club sports on campus including Men's Rugby, Women's Rugby, Cheerleading, Dance Team, and Men's Hockey.

Campus

All students must register their primary vehicle with the University Police Department Parking Office. Student permits are valid through 1 full academic year. Student parking at the Midtown Campus is available only in the parking garages. Dining program has been designed with students in mind. Flexibility, varied hours and a choice of dining locations will all enable learners to find the perfect place at the perfect time. In order to meet students' campus dining needs, the Food Service Management Team developed several dining plans. Three residence halls are located on the Midtown campus: Litchfield Hall, Newbury Hall and Fairfield Hall. These are traditional style residence halls, where most of the rooms are shared between two or three students and each floor or section shares common bathrooms and lounges. Each hall also has recreation areas and equipment such as ping-pong and billiards tables, as well as lounges for watching TV or studying.

Facilities

Ruth A. Haas Library is the main library of WestConn. It is located at the center of the Midtown Campus. Students have a special Windows account, allowing access to networked computers on campus. They also can access library databases from off campus. The WestConn has the following computer facilities to offer: Student Technology Training Center, and Midtown Computer Center. The goal of these centers is to inform students, faculty and staff about the fundamentals of computing at WestConn. Centers focus on the various workshops they offer, the individualized assistance they provide, and the facilities and software they have available.

Health & Safety

The University Health Service offers quality primary and preventive health care. The Health Service strives to promote health awareness for students and academic community through educational programs and counseling, promoting healthy behaviors that facilitate academic success. Health Service provides treatment to all full time students, regardless of the health insurance they carry. As for the emergency care, it is provided for part time students, faculty and staff. The WCSU has a police department, which is primarily concerned with the protection of life and property, the prevention and suppression of crime, the apprehension and assistance in the prosecution of offenders, the preservation of peace, and the regulation of vehicular and other traffic.

Students of WestConn may want to become a member of one or several the following organizations: Anthropology Club, Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, Black & White, Delta Gamma Phi Sorority, Inc., Education Club, Greek Council, Honors Student Organization, IMPACT, Kappa Chi Alpha Sorority, Marketing Club, Multiple Realities Club, O.W.L.S. - Older Wiser Learners, Paganism Club, Reality- WCSU Gospel Choir, Roots N Shoots, Sigma Chi Fraternity, Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity.

Location

The Midtown Campus is in the heart of Danbury, close to City Center shops and restaurants. The Department of Housing and Residence Life offers a list of off-campus accommodations for students who looking for off-campus living.

Alumni & Post-Grad

The Alumni Association establishes a medium through which the alumni, both graduates and former students, can contribute, financially and personally, to the welfare of the University. It also fosters a mutually helpful relationship among the alumni, the faculty and the student body of the University, and maintains a spirit of loyalty among the alumni. The Association also participates in the raising of funds for the benefit of the University by gift, endowment, scholarship or student aid, and engages in any lawful act or activity furthering the purposes of the association permitted as a tax exempt organization under applicable law.

Jobs & Internship

The Career Development Center offers a number of services to assist graduating seniors with their career goals. Whether a person is planning to attend graduate school or enter the job market, the Career Development Center can help. Graduates should utilize as many services as possible to assist themselves with their career planning and develop alternate ways to utilize their skills and academic background.
