Western Carolina University participates in NCAA Division I athletics. Athletics include football, men and women's basketball, baseball, women's soccer, men and women's golf, softball, men and women's track and field, cross country running, women's volleyball and tennis. The facilities include the following: E.J. Whitmire Stadium / Bob Waters Field (Football), Liston B. Ramsey Regional Activity Center (Basketball & Volleyball), Catamount Athletic Complex (Soccer, Tennis, Track), Catamount Softball Complex (Softball), Childress Field at Hennon Stadium (Baseball), Jordan-Phillips Field House (Weight Room), WCU Driving Range / Putting Green.

Campus

Western Carolina University provides students with a safe, clean, comfortable and wholesome living environment. On-campus living gives students greater opportunities to become involved with the university, to meet and develop relationships with a greater variety of people, and to participate in a living experience that is unique to university life. Campus life is greatly enhanced by the comforts, conveniences, and experiences that living in a residence hall provides. Freshmen are required to live on campus. This is advantageous because it means students will live in the heart of all the activity on campus and everything will be easily accessible. While living in the residence halls, students will participate in the meal plan, which gives them the freedom to choose from any of the great dining locations on campus. Catering is also available. All vehicles of the students and staff have to be registered. Vacant parking spaces can be found on campus at all times. However, these spaces may not always be as convenient as a motorist may like. All parking lots are serviced by the Cat-Tran shuttle bus during class hours.

Facilities

Western Carolina University has a library. The library provides its students with the following collections: books, e-books, media, music, and more. Library services include: library account; circulation (checking out a book, laptop, video Ė and how long students get to keep them); ABC express (delivery service); interlibrary loan (obtaining library materials that are not owned by Hunter Library or available from the network libraries at UNC-Asheville and Appalachian State through ABC Express); information literacy (the set of skills needed to find, retrieve, analyze, and use information). The university use information and communication technologies as a tool in enabling quality teaching, creating administrative efficiencies, performing effective research and conducting public service. The Division of Information Technology provides three microcomputer labs for students to use to help them with the completion of class assignments. There are trained lab assistants at this labs, which aid students in the use of the computer workstations.

Health & Safety

Western Carolina University is aimed to provide quality Health Services to meet the healthcare needs of the academic community and to improve the physical, psychological, environmental and health education needs of the campus. The University offers Wellness Program, which seeks to enhance campus wellness through: educational outreach programs, event sponsorship, advocacy, media campaigns, and resources. The Wellness Program is located within the Campus Recreation Center. Moreover, Student Health Insurance Plan includes 100% coverage of services at WCU Student Health Services. The Police Department of the University provides a full range of law enforcement services for the university community. All the officers are certified by the North Carolina Attorney Generalís Office and meet the Attorney Generalís standards for law enforcement officers.

Students

However students define themselves, they will find friends who share the same passions through WCUís student clubs and organizations. And if they donít see what they want, the Student Government Association can give them everything they need to start their own club. Through such clubs and organizations as the Leadership Institute, Greek Life, or SGA, or through the programs such as the Leadership Day of Dialogue, CatCamp, CATalyst, or any one of the LEAD courses, students will continue to learn how to make a positive impact on campus and in the greater community.

Location

Western Carolina University offers its students Off-Campus Housing services. The University provides its students with complete information on off-campus apartments, rent price, their commodities, and other.

Alumni & Post-Grad

The Alumni Association strives to meet the following purposes: to further the ideals and aims of the university; to augment the revenues of the university; to strengthen its programs of teaching, research, and service, and; to promote the general welfare of Western Carolina University through a strong alumni association. Since Western alumni live and work all over the U.S. and around the world, the University provides a new exclusive online community to help insure their purple and gold ties stay strong. The online community allows them to reconnect with old friends, make new friends, update their personal records and profile, send class notes and register for alumni events.
