Academics

The Eastern Campus offers a broad range of liberal arts and business courses, and specialized programs in Graphic Design, Dietetic Technology, Culinary Arts, Horticulture and Interior Design.

Athletics

Athletic program is a vital component of the Suffolk County Community College's co-curricular offerings. To compete in athletics, students must be enrolled for a minimum of 12 credits. Students at the College are also offered intramural program for both men and women that are coordinated by the Director of Athletics. Students may become members of baseball, basketball, volleyball, soccer, golf, tennis, lacrosse, bowling teams and more.

Campus

The SCCC does not provide its students with housing opportunity. It is recommended that students make their own living arrangement prior to arrival. The College offers parking services for its students. In order to park on College property all motor vehicles on the campus, including motorcycles, must be registered with the College and all students, faculty, staff and administrators must have a valid parking permit. Parking permits can be obtained on-line through the student or faculty/staff portal. Students at Eastern Campus are provided with food services during the academic year when classes are in session. At Peconic Building Cafe students are offered breakfasts, lunches and dinners that are provided by the campus' own food service, operated by the Suffolk Community College Association. Besides at Eastern Campus Students are provided with bus services to the campus with a bus shelter that is located behind the Peconic Building. Bus services are offered by the Suffolk County Transit Authority.

Facilities

At Eastern Campus students have an opportunity to use Library services where they may find numerous books and media, electronic books, periodicals, articles and many more. Internet connection is also available in the library. Besides students may use a coin-operated copy machine that is available in the library on the second floor.

Health & Safety

Health Services Office of Eastern Campus is staffed by registered nurses who are available to consult with students concerning matters of personal health. At the College a series of educational programs (e.g., AIDS, smoking cessation, alcohol and drug education, health fairs, weight control, etc.) are presented throughout the year. Accidents and illnesses occurring on campus should be reported to the campus nurse. Health Services Office provide the following services: -emergency first aid and referral for injuries -treatment and referral for acute illnesses -personal health counseling -referrals to community services and agencies -accident and health insurance information -preventative health care brochures and information -immunization information, certification, and free clinics -special parking requests -medical clearance for students in health careers programs The information on campus crime statistics, safety awareness, crime prevention, sexual assault, alcohol and drug education, and sexual harassment of the Suffolk County Community College is available on the College's Web site. Besides the crime statistics for SCCC is also available on the U.S. Department of Education Web site.

Students

The total number of students of the Eastern Campus is 3,726 with 1,488 students studying full-time and 2,238 students studying part-time. 55% of students are female students other 45% are male students. 74% of students are of 18-24 and 26% of students aged 25 and over. Students have a chance to participate in student organizations programs, campus governance and numerous student life programs as musical performances, art exhibits, films, family activities, lectures, workshops, trips and symposia. The goal of Multicultural Affairs is to foster an atmosphere of pluralism where diversity is respected and celebrated. Multicultural Affairs offers an exciting array of co-curricular activities that are designed to recognize the unique contributions of the various cultural, ethnic, gender, religious and social groups in our society. Students may become members of Gay Straight Alliance, Multicultural Student Union and more and take full advantage of these activities, which include special programs, holiday celebrations, workshops, field trips, speakers, cultural displays, student organizations, and more. Students at the College are also offered a wide variety of musical activities and events, including being an active member in a music club, attending music concerts and/or performing in any of eight music groups as the Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble, College Choir, Gospel Choir, Suffolk Singers, Guitar Ensemble, College Chamber Orchestra and the Contemporary Music Ensemble. Besides Suffolk County Community College offers a comprehensive theater program which includes musicals, dramas, comedies, classics and dance. All performances are offered on the Ammerman and Grant campuses and occasionally on the Eastern Campus. Students from any campus are encouraged to participate in all phases of production (e.g., scenery, lighting, costumes, acting, etc.).

Location

Concerning the fact that the College does not provide its students with on-campus housing opportunities, students have to find some off-campus housing options by themselves. Though the College does not provide students with information or assistance.

Alumni & Post-Grad

Suffolk County Community College offers alumni an opportunity to access the Alumni Community where they may find friends and classmates or update their information using the secure and password-protected alumni directory. It is also a chance to catch up with old friends and classmates or share news about family, career, and interests of alumni. The College also offers alumni an opportunity to become members of forming groups of those who had math, chemistry emphasis and majors in Culinary Arts, Food Management and Hotel and Resort Management.

Jobs & Internship

Enrolled students and alumni are offered professional assistance in researching and pursuing career opportunities in local, regional and national markets by Career Services Office. The staff assist students and alumni to understand the career search process, construct resumes and cover letters, hone interview techniques, and participate in internship and cooperative education experiences. Professional of career service facilitate workshops throughout the semester in resume writing, interviewing, networking, career exploration and effective job search techniques. All students have access to community businesses through the college's extensive networking strategies, made available through Suffolk's Job Connection, an online database of employment opportunities accessible on the College's Web site.
