Academics

The Main campus of the Temple University offers its students an outstanding intellectual environment that fosters independent thinking, creative expression and leadership. Here students are provided with Bachelor, Master, Doctor degrees as well as certificate, post-master's, post bachelor certificate programs in business, medicine, arts, social studies, biological and chemical sciences, humanities, geography and more.

Athletics

All students at Temple University has an opportunity to become members of men's baseball, basketball, crew, cross country, football, golf, gymnastics, soccer, tennis, track & field teams and women's basketball, crew, cross country, fencing, field hockey, gymnastics, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, track & field, volleyball teams. Temple University's sports teams are the Owls. These sport teams participate in the NCAA's Division I and are primary members of the Atlantic Ten Conference (A-10), with the notable exception of football, which transitioned into the Mid-American Conference from being a I-A Independent. Besides the Owls are part of the Philadelphia Big 5, the Philadelphia-area basketball rivalry.

Campus

At the Main campus of the Temple University students and sophomores have the opportunity to live in several housing units: Johnson & Hardwick Residence Halls, Gertrude Peabody Residence Hall, James S. White Residence Hall, 1940 Residence Hall, 1300 Residence Hall, Temple Towers Residence Hall, Elmira Jefferies Residence Hall, and The Edge at Avenue North. Graduate students may obtain housing in Triangle Apartments that are the oldest ones. As for the dining services, students may have their meal in Louis J. Esposito Dining Center (Johnson/Hardwick Complex) - the largest student restaurant on campus that offers the widest variety of meal choices. Faculty, students, and staff can select from 13 food and beverage stations designed to provide broad meal variety throughout the semester. Six self serve food stations are also present so diners can compose their own meals. Students are also provided with food services in The Valaida S. Walker Food Court (Gittis Student Center) and in The Artist's Palate (School of Art). Students and employees of the Main campus of Temple University are provided with convenient daily or monthly parking. The Office of Parking Services is also ready to assist students, faculty and staff with the special parking needs which they may have from time to time. At Temple University students are also offered the Inter Campus shuttle services. Shuttle service is offered during the fall and spring semesters only and operates numerous transportation routes.

Facilities

Students have an opportunity to use The TECH (Teaching, Education, Collaboration and Help) Center where there are resources that cater to current learning styles. The Center has a variety of workspaces that enable students to work collaboratively or individually and allow students to meet, study, collaborate, relax, and use different resources. Students may take advantage from 700 computers at computer center, 13 breakout rooms for collaboration and group study, specialized labs including video editing, recording booths, graphic design, music composition, “quiet” zone, and advanced technology lab, social space for students with lounge areas and plasma TVs. There are number of Libraries at the Main campus as Law Library, Samuel L. Paley Library, Science & Engineering Library, Presser Listening Library, Social Sciences Data Library, Alice Tully Library where students may the collection of hundreds thousands of items, over 7,600 LPs, 800 CDs, 1,300 scores, 170 videorecordings, 200 audio cassettes, and listening and viewing stations.

Health & Safety

Temple University implements comprehensive and effective college security forces. 124 campus police officers, including supervisors and detectives, play a pivotal role in the prevention of crime on campus and in the neighboring North Philadelphia community. Approximately 600 campus security cameras help the department maintain an optimal view of the university and the surrounding community. The University has also implemented a state of the art lighting system which utilizes over 1000-watt metal halide lights mounted on building rooftops that mimics daylight at ground level. Students at the Student Health Services are provided with affordable, accessible and high quality primary health care. Student Health Services provides many of the same services family doctor performs. The work of the Health Services includes, but is not limited to the following services: Allergy Shots, Dental Care, Dispensary, Gynecology/ Family Planning, HIV Testing, Immunizations, Laboratory, Nutrition, Physical Exams, Referrals, Self Care Center, Sexually Transmited Disease Testing, Smoking Cessation and more.

Students

At the Main Campus students of all races and ethnic backgrounds receive their knowledge. There are 3.6% of Hispanic, 9.6% of Asian/Pacific Islander, 15.4% of Black, non-Hispanic, 56.3% White, non-Hispanic, 0.3% of American Indian, 14.8% of students of other ethnic groups. Student Activities may provide students with the necessary resources to form a student group, program planning tools, and avenues to learn and network with students from all over the world. Here at the Student Activities students may find more than 200 student organizations. Groups are devoted to everything from fashion to the environment to community service. All part time or full time student can form a group. The University is also proud of its students-run radio station (WHIP) and The Temple News newspaper. The Greek community of the Temple University continues to grow. Participating in a Fraternity or Sorority offers the complete undergraduate experience, emphasizing founding principles of Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Brotherhood/Sisterhood.

Location

Here at Temple University an Off-Campus Living Office was created that is ready to serve and meet students' needs. The team of the office works hard to make each and every student’s Off-Campus Living experience a success. The purpose of the Off-Campus Living Office is to provide students with as many resources and options as possible to assist them in dealing with any off campus issues they may encounter.

Alumni & Post-Grad

On the day of graduation students become members of the Temple University Alumni Association which is ready to offer its students a wide array of benefits and services – from event invitations to special insurance rates. Students should have received an alumni card upon graduation. This card serves as the key to the University and will be useful at several places on campus, such as the library, the TECH Center and recreation services. Temple also offers a variety of insurance options for alumni and their spouses, domestic partners, children, parents and siblings. Medical Insurance for special situations, including travelers and students, plus those temporarily without coverage, such as the unemployed and recent grads. The medical insurance offerings include: Short Term Medical, Travel Medical and Accident, Permanent Medical, Long Term Care, Student Medical. Life insurance and auto insurance are also available. Alumni may also travel with fellows from the Temple University.

Jobs & Internship

Temple University Career Center offers a variety of services to help its Temple talent make a smooth transition from the classroom to the workplace. The Center provides a full complement of resources to assist students in making informed choices, identifying and exploring options, putting strategy together, and bringing them face to face with prospective employers. The services of the Career Center include the following: Career Library, Virtual Career Center, Virtual Office Hours/Resume Critiques, Career Coaching/Advising, Career Assessment/Decision-Making Instruments, Full range of Career-Related Workshops, Career Expo, On Campus Recruiting/Interviewing, Part Time Job & Internship Fair, Internships & Externships, The OwlNetwork (online job posting system), Video Taped Mock Interviews, Continuing Service as Alumni, Career Resources, Job Market Information and others.
