Academics

Vincennes University Main Campus offers a diverse set of majors that are focused on careers in teaching and industry. Vincennes University is organized into six divisions: 1) Business / Public Service Division; 2) Health Sciences / Human Performance Division; 3) Humanities; 4) Social Science / Performing Arts; 5) Department of Science / Mathematics; 6) Department of Technology. Vincennes University is also the only college in the nation that offers a Bowling Management and Technology program.

Athletics

VU believes that sports play an important role in the overall purpose of an educational institution. The University supports intercollegiate sports program for both men and women and have a strong presence in the NJCAA. VU is proud of its individual All-American and All-American Academic athletes who have used their talent to continue their education at four-year colleges. The VU team moniker is the Trailblazers. VU Trailblazers compete in baseball, bowling, golf, basketball, cross country, tennis, volleyball, swimming & diving, and track & field. Its bowling team is particularly well known as it has won 21 NJCAA national championships. The men's bowling team won the 1983 USBC collegiate national championship.

Campus

The Dining Services of Vincennes University has designed a meal program guaranteed to meet students' individual needs. Traditionally, students can choose from six different meal plans. The first three meal plans are our standard 19, 14, 10 meals. The other meal plans include either 19, 14, 10 meals PLUS Flex Dollars. There are six residence halls for students. Each of them has comfortable study rooms, recreation areas, laundry rooms, kitchen facilities and vending machines. All rooms are individually climate-controlled. All have single beds with extra-long twin mattresses, desks, chairs, study lamps, closet and drawer space, wastebaskets, draperies/blinds, extended basic cable television, high speed Internet connections, and voice mail. All employees and students who bring vehicles to campus will be held responsible for obtaining a valid parking permit and for the proper operation of their vehicle. It is the responsibility of each member of the University to read, understand and abide by the regulations.

Facilities

The Main Campus of Vincennes University has two libraries: 1) Shake Library offers the Information Commons that not only allows general Internet use but also hosts the library's web page and its thousands of electronic journals and magazines. The Reference Desk is available and is staffed with five professional librarians who may assist in the research process. 2) Lewis Library is a comprehensive repository of historical documents, books and letters emphasizing the history of the former Indiana Territory. The University offers many tutoring and labs, such as the following: Kirkwood Learning Center, Writing Center, Technology Center Atrium, Technology Center Atrium, Math Tutoring Lab, Chelsea Lawlis Learning Center, Business Computer Lab, Science Tutoring Lab, Reading Lab, Computer Lab, Computer Class Room and other. All computers have wireless Internet access. All laboratories are equipped with up-to-date equipment.

Health & Safety

VU's Health Office serves students' needs and decreases the cost of medical services. The Office is staffed with three registered nurses and administered under the supervision of consultant physicians from the Medical Center of Vincennes. Nurses are available to assess student's illness or injury on a 10-minute appointment schedule. This medical program is included in the room and board fee for residence hall students. Off-campus students may enroll in the program by completing an application form and submitting the per semester fee to the Health Office prior to the end of the first week of classes. The Vincennes University Department of Police and Safety is aimed to provide a safe and secure campus for all individuals at VU. The department strives to maintain an environment in which the primary education mission of the University can be realized. The staff of the Department are professionally trained to provide police, security and parking services for the campus community.

Students

There are more than 40 clubs and organizations at Vincennes University. Each of them offers almost unlimited opportunity to meet new people, develop leadership skills, and work with others of similar interests. They are: Accounting Club, Alpha Beta Gamma, Auto Mechanics Club, Black Male's Initiative (BMI), Black Student Association (BSA), Campus Cadet Corps, Catholic Campus Ministries, Diesel Technician Club of VU.

Alumni & Post-Grad

Members of the VU Alumni Association are included in mailings from the University and the Alumni Association. They keep up-to-date with their Alma Mater. They also have a range of benefits and services, including: academic transcripts, alumni benefits card, alumni directory, career and employer relations, merchandise, lifetime email.

Jobs & Internship

Career counseling is available to assist students with their career planning needs. It concentrates on career planning, employment skills and job search strategies including assistance with resume development and interviewing are also available. The Career and Employer Relations Office also works with business, industry, public service, and health-related corporations to assist students in gaining professional employment after completing their degree requirements. Internships provide students with valuable practical experience related to their major and may be the link to successful placement after graduation. The Career Exploration Center provides listings of internship opportunities available. Listing of part-time jobs on-campus as well as off-campus is also available.
