Academics

Through Aviation Technology Center students can earn their Federal Aviation Administration Airframe and Powerplant Certificate (FAA A&P) along with either an Associate of Applied Science Degree (A.A.S.) or Associate of Science (A.S.) in Aviation Maintenance Technology. Courses consist of approximately 60% laboratory and 40% lecture instruction. Certification process starts at the end of the fourth semester and is divided into three parts: 1) an FAA computerized exam in the certified computer testing center; 2) an oral exam; 3) a practical (skills) exam all given by onsite FAA Designated Mechanic Examiners.

Facilities

ATC facility includes more than 90,000 square feet building. Two Hangars contains 15 Aircrafts. The Center has 12 classrooms and 10 equipped laboratories, including: airframe systems lab, composites lab, computer lab, electric lab, engine overhaul lab, hydraulics lab, media center, physics lab, powerplant lab, sheet metal lab, tool room, and welding lab.

Jobs & Internship

The Indianapolis International Airport, where the Aviation Technology Center located, is a place with several companies working within its boundaries. Many of them hire at an entry level. So long as a person can handle the extra load, he/she is free to pursue any job he/she'd like. For such individuals the campus places local job openings on the office employment bulletin board and has numerous contacts in the aviation community. Many top airlines recruit VU graduates. The faculty and staff have connections and good working relationships with employers throughout the aviation industry. The Center has developed an electronic communication system to inform past and present students about aviation related employment opportunities.
