Academics

The South Omaha campus offers academic programs to help students learn trade or technical skills, to earn their Associate or Diploma degree. The fields of studying include: applied technology, business, communications and humanities, culinary arts, health and public services, information technology and e-learning, languages and visual arts, learning design and support, math and natural sciences, social sciences. The college aims at developing and operating specific degree and certificate programs that are responsive to the immediate needs of the community.

Athletics

The South Omaha Campus cooperates with the University of Nebraska-Omaha (UNO) Campus Recreation to allow students participating in recreational opportunities. Students may choose such intramural sports as flag football, soccer, volleyball, basketball and more. Students pay a $10 participation fee per UNO semester. They are also allowed to participate in Outdoor Venture Center programs including hiking, canoe trips and outdoor workshops.

Campus

The South Omaha Campus of Metropolitan Community College doesn't provide students with housing. But it has cafe that is open from Monday till Friday to offer dining services. Students are also provided with convenient bus transportation that allows them to get to and from campus. Carpooling is also available. Those students with their own cars may obtain parking permit to be allowed to park in the parking area. It is easy to obtain this free permit from the Student Services Offices at the campus.

Facilities

The South Omaha Campus consists of three buildings. The Mahoney and Industrial Training Center (ITC) buildings house many credit and specialized programs. Another building, the Connector Building, houses Student Affairs (registration, financial aid, testing, and career services), Book Store, Writing, Math, and the Academic Resource Centers, Food Court, and Metro Area Transit bus hub. The campus has modern, technologically advanced classrooms and laboratories. Students have access to the library. The campus also works closely with local industry, businesses and labor organizations to develop and operate specific degree and certificate programs.

Health & Safety

The South Omaha Campus cares about its students and staff. And for this it offers health programs to prevent the flu and other diseases. The health operations plan promotes the health and safety of students, faculty, staff, family and visitors to the College by reducing the potential exposure to seasonal influenza or viruses. The campus monitors guidance and recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and World Health Organizations (WHO). It encourages and expects all faculty, staff and students to adhere to the guidance of the CDC and the College Health Advisory Committee in order to minimize their risk of becoming ill with seasonal flu. All international students must purchase Aetna Student Health Insurance upon arrival at the College.

Students

The South Omaha of Metropolitan Community College admits international students and welcomes everybody who wants to enter the College. The Campus has many organizations for students to join. They are: American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA), American Society of Interior Design (ASID), International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP), Metro Cinema Society/Video Club, Metro Photo Club, Mu Gamma Gamma (Criminal Justice), Positive Opportunities for Parenting Solo (POPS), Skills USA (VICA), Student Advisory Council, Student Nurse Association (SNA), Tri Omega (Culinary), Volunteer Corps. Students can also visit such clubs as: Campus Crusade for Christ, Organization of Latino Activities (OLA), Student Organization of Dance Activities (SODA), Visual Arts Clubs. Students also participate in the Honor Societies, which include: 1) Kappa Beta Delta (International Honor Society for Business, Management and Administration students); 2) National Technical Honor Society; 3) Phi Theta Kappa (International Honor Society for two-year college students).

Alumni & Post-Grad

All alumni are invited to stay engaged in a continued relationship with the college. The campus has alumni association that invites every alumnus to attend special events offered at the campus, offers a testimonial in support of the educational experience at MCC.

Jobs & Internship

The South Omaha campus has a career center that aims at equipping students, alumni and community members with the ability to address lifelong career direction, transistions, issues and satisfaction. It helps students find jobs after graduating the College. There are many resources in the career center from online career packages to career-based magazines such as "Job Choices" that assist students with career decisions.
