Academics

Degree programs are offered through five schools: the School of Business, the School of Education and Allied Studies, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the School of Science and Mathematics, and the Graduate School. Bridgewater offers 90+ undergraduate and graduate programs. It opened its own flight school at New Bedford Regional Airport to support its aviation program – the only such bachelor’s degree program at a public institution in the Northeast. Bridgewater students have exciting opportunities to travel and study internationally via direct exchange programs and short-term, faculty-led study tours. Bridgewater sponsors visiting scholars from around the world.

Athletics

Students may choose among 10 sports for men and 11 for women in the college’s intercollegiate varsity athletic program. The Bridgewater State University Department of Athletics currently sponsors Men's Intercollegiate Basketball, Baseball, Football, Wrestling, Cross Country, Soccer, Indoor Track, Swimming, and Tennis and Women's Intercollegiate Basketball, Lacrosse, Indoor Track, Softball, Volleyball, Cross Country, Field Hockey, Soccer, Tennis, and Swimming.

Campus

The Office of Residence Life and Housing seeks to provide undergraduate housing that is safe, clean, comfortable and conducive to student learning. There are ten different residence halls, each one with its unique characteristics.

Facilities

The Reference Collection, located on the first floor of the Library, consists of over 12,000 titles designed to provide factual information. Over 2,000 United States and Canadian government documents are also available. Reference services are available to students, faculty, staff and members of the community anytime the library is open. Librarians work closely with faculty members to develop instructional sessions for individual courses. The College Archives include, among other documents, yearbooks, catalogs, faculty and student publications and master's theses, as well as records of the early history of the college; also college publications, such as The Comment, Alumni News, and Bridgewater Today.

Health & Safety

BSU Health Service provides short-term health care for the common problems seen in college students. Professional staff provides students with supportive care and information whether they have a health emergency, a specific concern, or just not sure of how to take care of themselves. Clinical staff consists of nurses, nurse practitioners, and a physician. In case a student need specialized care, the university can arrange an appropriate referral.

Students

Nearly 50 percent of all Bridgewater students represent the first generation of their families to attend college; half of all enrolled students receive financial aid; more than 80 percent of the college’s first-time freshmen persist into their sophomore year. Ninety-five percent of the Bridgewater student body hails from the commonwealth and more than 85 percent remain in Southeastern Massachusetts after graduation There are 65 student organizations, ranging from academic associations to arts and media clubs to community service groups in Bridgewater University.
