Academics

Colleges and schools at BGSU include College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business Administration, College of Education and Human Development, Graduate College, College of Health and Human Services, College of Musical Arts, and College of Technology. BGSU offers more than 200 undergraduate majors and programs on the main campus; 8 bacalaureate and 14 associate degree programs at BGSU Firelands, masters and doctoral level programs, honors program, and nationally ranked cooperative education program. All this programs are available with the help of almost 900 full-time faculty committed to teaching and research (80 percent of full-time faculty hold the highest degree in their field) Continuing & Extended Education department offers Off-Campus Programs, Summer Sessions and professional and personal development opportunities for people of all ages. BGSU has accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools to offer full degree programs online.

Athletics

Bowling Green University's sports teams are called the Falcons. The University participates in 18 sports. BGSU is one of only 13 universities in the country offering NCAA division I-A football, division I men's and women's basketball, and division I ice hockey. The Falcons participate in NCAA Division I (Division I-A for football) and in the Mid-American Conference and the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. University sport facilities: Doyt L. Perry Stadium, Ice Arena, Stroh Center, Anderson Arena, Whittaker Track, Sebo Athletic Center, Perrysburg Tennis Center, Meserve Softball Field, Keefe Tennis Courts, Forrest Creason, Perry Field House, Cooper Pool, Steller Field, Cochrane Soccer Stadium.

Campus

There are several housing options in BGSU: Conklin Hall (recently renovated, including new carpet and paint throughout the building as well as upgrades made to the front desk with air conditioning, wireless internet and is in close proximity to both Harshman and Kreischer Quadrangles, the Sundial Dining Center and Jerome Library), McDonald Hall (houses nearly 1,000 students in three wings: East, West and North), Harshman Quadrangle (contains four residence halls: Anderson, Bromfield, Chapman and Dumber), Kreischer Quadrangle (consists of four residence halls: Ashley, Batchelder, Compton, and Darrow), Kohl Hall (built in 1939, houses approximately 340 students in double occupancy rooms), Offenhauer Towers ( house 839 students in air-conditioned double, triple and single occupancy rooms) and Founders Hall (contains 73 air-conditioned double and single room suites with private bathrooms). The first two years of college is a transition time for most students as they mature and learn to be more independent. The University assists in the process by providing a structured housing and dining program. When the needs for food and shelter are met, students can focus on their studies and on adjusting to college life. The student's BGSU photo ID card is used to make meal plan purchases. The Meal plan fee is included with housing and tuition in the Bursar statement students receive prior to each semester. Some students pay in full or use the Installment Payment Plan. Meal Plan fees are non-refundable. Meal plans can be used in any BGSU residential dining center, snack bar or marketplace for food items. Non-food items must be paid for in cash or credit card. Students pay for food when they make a purchase in a dining facilities. Items are individually priced. Falcon Dollars are the dollars included in a meal plan fee that a student may opt to spend in the BowenThompson Student Union for food including the Falcon's Nest Food Court, the Bowling Greenery, 2.mato 2.nite, Starbucks®, and the Black Swamp Pub (food only). Falcon Dollars can also be used in any of the dining centers. The minimum meal plan fee offered by BGSU is the BRONZE plan which provides a spending limit of 1200 residential dollars and 275 Flacon Dollars. Depending on your personal eating habits an upgraded plan such as the SILVER provides a spending limit of 1755 dollars including 555 Falcon Dollars. Regardless of the meal plan chosen, points can be added to any plan at any time during the semester. There is a campus fare-free bus transit system that runs throughout campus and Bowling Green, Ohio. The system is made up of three routes (not including the special shortened Sunday-only route). The main route includes major stops on campus and buses run every 10 minutes. Off Campus North Route runs from the bus stop at the Student Union North through The Science Research Complex before leaving campus and running North to the Woodland Mall before heading back southeast with stops at major apartment complexes and downtown Bowling Green. The Off Campus South Route is the third route and runs through the southern portion of campus and the neighborhoods South of the university. In addition to the bus system, the university also runs a free ride service for students to go to destinations off campus. Parking permits are required for vehicles remaining on campus during the conference. Permits are $5/permit issued. Permits are good for the entire duration of your visit whether it is one day or one week. Permits are issued at the residence hall front desk upon guest check in.

Facilities

Residential Computing Connection (RCC) is a program within the Office of Residence Life at Bowling Green State University, which develops and manages the information technology environment for on-campus student residences to enhance learning and personal development. RCC Helpdesk is available to assist with issues students may encounter while using university provided computers or their personal computer in the residence halls. It provides both help over the phone and in person via walk-ins as well as sending our consultants out to resolve issues. Each residence hall and small group house contains at least one Computer Lab, which each one having a combination of Dell and Apple computers as well as a black and white laser printer. The residence hall computer labs are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Three University-wide learning laboratories are housed in Academic Enhancement—the Mathematics Laboratory, the Study Skills Laboratory and the Writers Laboratory. The library gives students free access to more than 250 research databases, making it a snap to search for scholarly sources for the research papers. Its is possible to use almost all of them off-campus by accessing them through the library's homepage and entering student's BGSU username and password.

Health & Safety

Health & Safety courses are offered to students, faculty/staff, and community members and are conducted by American Red Cross certified instructors. Participants must be at least 15 years old.

Students

BGSU enrolls students from 50 states and 70 other countries. Ethnic and racial minority students made up about 17 percent of the recent class. The Office of Campus Activities supports many programs that give students and their families the opportunity to socialize and to develop a variety of life-long skills and friendships. Those programs include: Community Service; Leadership Programs; Major Events; Parent & Family Programs; Student Organizations; University Activities Organization. At Bowling Green State University there are over 300 registered student organizations that provide great opportunities for students to get involved. Bowling Green hosts 40 social fraternities and sororities. Greek student comprise 12% of all undergraduate students at the university. Fraternities and sororities are apart of one of four councils: Inter-Fraternity Council, Panhellenic Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council, or Independent Greek Council.

Location

There is an online community portal for Bowling Green - BGscene. It focuses on providing information for students at BGSU and residents of Bowling Green. Here, users can view restaurants (fast food, pizza and delivery)and ATM locations on a customized Google map, view movie show times around Bowling Green and Toledo, as well as booking hotels. Here students can find information about more than 20 clubs and bars, 50 restaurants, 10 movie theaters. University apartments give students the opportunity to live off campus while still having the advantages and securities of living on campus. BGSU offers fully furnished apartments that can room 2 to 4 students.

Alumni & Post-Grad

The Office of Alumni and Development is responsible for encouraging the alumni and friends to be strong advocates for BGSU. It aims to connect students to their alma mater and each other, and offer excellent support services and programs. It also conduct and manage the fundraising activities that enhance the educational foundation of the University, helping to attract and retain the best students and faculty. The Bowling Green State University Alumni Association, Inc. exists to maintain alumni connections to BGSU by providing value-added programs and services with the goals of: supporting the personal and professional success of our alumni; inspiring pride in, promoting involvement with, and providing support of the University and its mission.

Jobs & Internship

The Career Center's Job and Internship Fairs are provided exclusively for BGSU students and alumni. To view a list of organizations and school districts registered to attend, students have to login to the WorkNet account via student's MyBGSU web portal prior to the event. University Dining Services is the largest student employer on the BGSU campus.
