Advanced Placement Program® (AP) Information
AP Credit and Placement Policy
Offers credit for AP Exams:Yes
Offers placement into higher-level courses for AP Exams: Yes
From the college:
Dickinson College values students who have challenged themselves in high school with courses that are difficult and appropriate to their educational objectives. Advanced Placement courses fit the bill. Students are rated in the admission process on the strength of their curriculum within the context of what is offered at their high school. Of course, there is a reason for challenging oneself that is far more important than 'admission competitiveness.' A challenging academic course load in high school, such as AP courses, helps to prepare students to think, analyze and communicate at a college level. These skills will be developed further in college, but an AP curriculum will help students get a valuable introduction to these essential learning skills. Grades on AP exams are considered on a supplemental basis in the admission process when they are available. AP exam grades are typically not a major factor in the admission decision.
